mons. Marco Frisina

Mons. Marco Frisina was born in Rome on December 16 1954. After classical studies he attended the Faculty of Arts at the University "La Sapienza" and graduated in composition at the Conservatory “Santa Cecilia”.
In 1978 he entered, as a student, the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary studying theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and receiving a Diploma in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute. He was ordained priest in 1982. Since then, he carries out his ministry in the Diocese of Rome. He was spiritual assistant to the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary, then rector of the Church of Santa Maria in Montesanto. He is currently Rector of the Church of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere.

In 1984 he founded - and since then directs - the Choir of the Diocese of Rome, currently over 250 items. The choir was created for the animation of the major diocesan liturgies, many of which are presided by the Holy Father. To these animations,concerts have been added over the years in many Italian and foreign dioceses as well as attendances to numerous institutional events. Since 1991 he is the director of the Liturgical Office of the Vicariate of Rome and Master of the Pontifical Lateran Choir.

That same year he also began his collaboration on the international project of Rai "Bible" both as a biblical consultant and as the author of the music. In those years, in addition to the film of the"Bible Project", he has composed the soundtracks of many historical and religious-themed film for RAI and Mediaset, including "Michael Strogoff", "Papa John", "John Paul II," " Edda Ciano, "" Callas and Onassis "and the more recent ones " Pompeii "," Puccini "," Paul VI ".

Author of numerous liturgical songs known and appreciated in Italy and abroad, Mons. Frisina has,in his discography, important collaborations with major projects of Italian and international artists. These include "Silent Night. A Christmas in Rome ", built in 1998 with the Chieftains leader Paddy Moloney and" From Earth, "disc recorded in 2000 by Mina, for whom he composed the songs "Magnificat" and "Nada te turbe."

He has composed and performed before Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI over 20 sacred oratorios inspired both by biblical characters and by the life of great saints.

Music can be a powerful weapon, capable of uniting those who are far to the closest ones making them vibrate in unison thanks to the beauty of the love of Christ.

In 1997 he was appointed Pontifical Academy of Distinguished Professor Virtuoso Academy of Fine Arts and Literature of the Virtuosi of the Pantheonby Pope John Paul II. 

He was responsible for a number of important musical events of the Great Jubilee of 2000, as theWorld Youth Day and, more recently, the event RAI “The Bible Day and Night”,the longest direct shot in the television history.

In 2007 he composed the opera “The Divine Comedy”,the first musical transposition of Dante's eponymous masterpiece.
From January 2009 his second work for the theater: "The Miracle of Marcellino," based on the novel by Jose Maria Sanchez Silva "Marcellino Pane e Vino", is beeing performed.
